Since the early 1980s, there has always been a market for edgy intimate apparel. Alternative fashions emerged with many genres of subculture movements which included a plethora of styles and interpretations. Although Coquette International has a reputation for creating the most luxurious lingerie in the industry, the company is also a large distributor of alternative styles, known as its Darque Collection.
“We are taking a new direction with our Darque collection this year by releasing a catalog entirely dedicated to these styles,” states Coquette’s Creative Director, Cindy Cipriano. “We usually feature our Darque styles as a supplement in our annual catalogs, but the response we have received for these particular styles warrant an entire book.”
This is the first time since 2009 that Coquette has released a Darque catalog, suggesting that alternative styles are on the rise.
Coquette’s National Sales Manager, Dave George, offers his thoughts on the new collection. “Right now you see a lot of extreme fashion seen with Lady Gaga and other celebrities wearing wet look pieces and lingerie as outerwear. Since this edgy look is so in style, the general public is looking to create their interpretations of this trend.”
The Darque collection for this year features 16 new seductive styles using classic PVC and wet look materials mixed with lace and satin ribbons to add a delicate mainstream appeal to the line.
“The greatest thing about this year’s Darque Collection is that the skirts and dresses can be worn out and even paired with a piece of your own clothing as a trendy statement,” adds George.
